How to relieve the symptoms of a cold?

expand_more

Some of the most common cold symptoms are a blocked nose, runny nose and a sore throat as well as coughing and headaches.* Here at LloydsPharmacy, we have a range of Benylin® treatments that may help with relieving and soothing your cough and cold symptoms.**

Sudafed® treatments can be used to help relieve the symptoms of a stuffy or blocked nose. Decongestant sprays and decongestant tablets can aid in relieving these symptoms.

If you're experiencing aches and pains, painkillers like paracetamol or ibuprofen may help. However, some of the decongestant Sudafed® capsules such as Sudafed® sinus max strength capsules contain painkiller properties which can help relieve your pain. You can buy cough and cold medicines here at LloydsPharmacy. One of our pharmacists can advise you on the best medicine to help relieve your symptoms.

Your local pharmacist can help you choose the right treatment for you. Make sure to always read the label before taking any medicinal product.

How do decongestants work?

expand_more

There are various different decongestant medicines available at LloydsPharmacy. Below are some common active ingredients in decongestants and how they work.

Pseudoephedrine is one of the active ingredients in some decongestants. This works by narrowing the blood vessels to decrease swelling and congestion. Another ingredient is Phenylephrine. This works by decreasing swelling in the nose and ears, thereby lessening discomfort and making it easier to breathe. Xylometazoline is often used in decongestant nasal sprays and helps to clear a blocked nose and sinuses caused by colds or flu, by contracting swollen blood vessels easing the feeling of stuffiness and congestion.*****
