The 14th- 16th June 2021 is men’s health awareness week. With the past year having a big impact on people’s lives, circumstances, health and mental health the focus of men’s health awareness week is ‘how do we move forward?’
Men’s Health Forum are calling on everyone to choose a different wellbeing activity every day for 5 days, they’re calling it the CAN DO challenge.
Men’s health forum say there’s a disparity between the high number of men who die from suicide and the low number of men who seek treatment for depression, anxiety and mental health issues. With this in mind, we’ve drawn together some resources that you or the men in your life could turn to for support.
Samaritans
expand_moreSamaritans have a free 24 hour phone line 116 123 where you can call to talk about anything that may be troubling you. They offer a safe space to talk about whatever’s getting to you.
Mind
expand_moreThe charity Mind have a helpline 0300 123 3393 and also have lots of great resources on their website; from everyday tips to an A-Z of mental health as well as support and legal advice.
Rethink
expand_moreRethink is an information service offering practical help on a range of topics such as the Mental Health Act as well as information on living with mental illness, medication and care available. They have a telephone line and web chat.
The Mix
expand_moreThe Mix is a support service for young people and can help with any challenges from mental health to money. They offer support across their online community from their socials, helpline and counselling service.
Childline
expand_moreChildline is free and private service for anyone under the age of 19 where you can talk about anything. You can call free on 0800 1111 and the call won’t show up on your phone bill. They also have message boards and support online.
Give us a shout
expand_moreShout is a free, anonymous text service available 24/7 in the UK. You can start a conversation by texting the word SHOUT to 85258. Since launching in 2019 they’ve had more than half a million conversations with people who are anxious, stressed, depressed and overwelmed. They’re continuing to operate as normal during COVID-19.
