Frequently asked questions

Do I need a COVID-19 antibody test?

expand_more

If you think you’ve had COVID-19 in the past, this antibody test can confirm this. Or you can use this test to check your body’s immune response to the COVID vaccine.

If you think you currently have COVID-19, you might want to get a COVID-19 swab test, which will confirm if you have the virus now.

How does the COVID-19 antibody test work?

expand_more

The antibody test works by analysing a sample of your blood to test for the presence of COVID-19 antibodies.

An antibody is a protein that the body produces to help fight infection. If you have had COVID-19 your body might have produced specific antibodies to fight off the virus

How accurate is the antibody test?

expand_more

The test has specificity of 98.8% and a sensitivity of 99.8%.

This means that:

  • Out of 1000 people tested, 12 will get a positive result when they’re actually negative. This is called a false positive.
  • Out of 1000 people with antibodies, 2 will test negative even though they’re positive. This is called a false negative.

Positive antibody test results

expand_more

If you test positive for antibodies it means that there were COVID-19 antibodies in your blood sample. This means your body has produced a response to COVID-19, either from having the virus or the COVID-19 vaccine.

The level of antibodies can suggest your body’s response to either the virus or vaccine. As COVID-19 is still a fairly new virus, we don’t know yet what the significance of the level’s value or whether this might change with time and how long you might have this immune response.

Negative antibody test results

expand_more

Testing negative for COVID-19 antibodies means that there were either no antibodies or the levels were too low to be of any significance.

You’ll be told your antibody levels are less than 0.4U/mL. This means you most likely haven’t had COVID-19 or had the vaccine.

Are your COVID-19 sampling kits fully regulated?

expand_more

Yes. Our sampling kits include are CE-marked which means they conform to European standards for medical testing. The Roche antibody tests are legal to supply in the UK. Plus, the Doctors Laboratory (TDL) provides UK-accredited medical services globally.

How do I use the COVID-19 antibody blood sampling kit?

expand_more

To collect the sample from the antibody COVID-19 test you will need to prick your little finger to produce blood. It’s important you follow the instructions provided in the kit very closely.
